Eastertide
or the Easter Season begins with the Mass on Holy Saturday and ends
with the Mass on the Saturday before Trinity Sunday.
(a) SPECIAL OBSERVANCES
(1) The Color of Vestments, etc.: The color of the season is White.
(2)
The Paschal Candle: The paschal candle is lighted at High or Solemn
Masses and at sung Vespers. Custom is to be followed for other
liturgical functions. The paschal candle is not lighted when black or
purple vestments are used or at Benediction. The use of the paschal
candle during Mass is discontinued after the Gospel in the Mass on
Ascension Thursday. But once more at the blessing of the baptismal font
on the eve of Pentecost, it becomes part of that ceremony, after which
it may then, after removing the grains of incense, be carefully stored
away for the following year.
